Shyamal Mukherjee is a leading Bengali artist who was born and brought up in Kolkata (1963). He pursued his art education from Santiniketan completing his BFA (1987) and MFA (1989) from Rabindra Bharti University.

Shyamal Mukherjee paintings in the reverse oil or acrylic painting on transparent sheets which is a very time-consuming effort. He takes inspiration from his daily life and portrays figures bordering on a caricature style, which is guaranteed to make a viewer smile.
